February Goals

A few days late, but as promised here are my goals for February!

How are we feeling about this month?

Super excited and motivated! I feel like I have control over the situation, know what I’m doing and have a good plan for the revision progress.

What are 3 things I could do to move me further to my goal?

  1. Read my book. I haven’t given my rewrite a full read through since I last worked on it last year. I’m going to print it out and read the whole thing without a pen in my hand.

  2. Rewrite my Save the Cat beat sheet and make sure all the beats hang together in a plot that makes sense. All beats need to have external and internal significance.

  3. Make notes on what needs adding and what needs to be taken out.

Any potential obstacles/problems?

The current problem I have is that I have no way of binding my script. I know it’s trivial, but it really bothers me. I’ve printed it out, but at the moment they’re just loose pages. Working in a ring binder is just too bulky, but I can’t get hold of a way to bind it with spiral binding.

I'm a bit worried about getting confused. I’ve never done proper revisions before. I’ve spoken to three women who’s process I admire and think I know how I want to go about it. However, I’m a bit worried that I will get disorientated because it feels like a really daunting process and there's loads to go through.

I’m terrified of my midpoint. I think, potentially, a large part of the second act will have to change completely and, honestly, I’m not looking forward to it.

Any potential external obstacles?

Time-wise life is quite good right now. I’m ahead of my school work and I have no other deadlines. This term is quite relaxed so this is the perfect time to get through this process.

What am I looking forward to?

I am looking forward to my morning VBTC with the Stockholm Writers’ Network. They really do get me working on my WIP.

And I’m not even going to lie. I’m looking forward to getting all my bloody highlighters out and scrawling all over my draft.

Schedule

Week 5

  • Print my draft.

  • Read my draft.

  • Rewrite the beat sheet for act 1.

Week 6

  • Rewrite the beat sheet for act 2.

(I reckon I’m going to have some difficulties around the midpoint so I’m dedicating the whole week to this.)

Week 7

  • Rewrite the beat sheet for act 3.

(I know I rushed through the third act in the draft so I will probably need some time to properly revise this.)

Week 8

I’m kinda leaving this week free at the moment to see what happens up until this point. It will serve as a buffer week. If I haven’t already figured out what needs to be cut and what needs to be added scene-wise while writing the beat sheet, I’d like to decide on that this week.

Off we go! Wish me luck!
